Natural hiking excursion at Maccalube Natural Park
The spectacular mud volcanoes!
The area is characterized by sweet forms, constituted predominantly by clay deposits and ploughed by a thick net of deep hillsides, which are periodically crossed by the waters collected during the rainy season. Due to the poverty of the ground and the aridity of the climate, the primary vegetation is made up of succulent plants.
In Autumn with the first rains the land is covered by light green grass, which in spring turns in an explosion of colors, filling the hills with a lawn of wild flowers.
In this context stands the hill of “vulcanelli”. It is a bare moor of grey and whitish colors, from which a series of mud volcanoes, about one meter tall, recalling a lunar landscape.
