The village is worldwide known for its art in ceramics, whose memories date back to the Middle Ages and reached its zenith in the Renaissance. The considerable fame and the great mastery in fact consented to the workshops of Deruta the realization of the floors of the Chapel of the Palazzo dei Priori and the sacristy adjoining the Basilica of St. Peter in Perugia and the Baglioni Chapel in Spello. Deruta ceramics are famous for their decorative vases, plates and other objects of various shapes and the oldest are now kept in the best museums in the world for its high artistic quality.
