Ancient town of Etruscan origin
Located on a spur of tuff, the enchanting borgo of Sovana still preserves a Medieval aspect that testifies its glorious history. Beside noble palaces and wonderful churches featured in the historical center, Sovana also boasts a precious Etruscan and Roman heritage set in the Archaeological Area of the Tufo and represented by ancient settlements, the "Vie Cave" (roads used to reach areas of burial, than become the roads of communication) and the necropolis that are the richest and best known testimony, the subject of numerous excavation campaigns. The finds discovered in this area are now kept in the archaeological museums of the Maremma.This huge heritage, together with excellent local food & wine, make Sovana a major tourist destination.
