Visit of the archeological park of the Daunians and Ascoli Satriano
An indelible roman evidence
The Archaeological Park of the Daunians in Ascoli Satriano teems with traces of ancient people. The site is spread out overtwo areas, the monumental area and the Collina del Serpente. In 2002 was discovered a large settlement dating back to Roman times, consisting of a corridor, the so called dromos, which leads into a chambertomb holding the remains of a Roman woman of high rank. The Collinadel Serpente, inhabited since the early Neolithic, became a landmark for th epre-Romancommunities and was used as a necropolis from the 6 th to the 4 th centuryBC. Archaeological ex cavations that brought to light the Daunian sanctuary dating from the 6th-5th century BS, as well as the pre-Roman necropoli began in the early 1960's.
